District of Columbia State Meet XC Recap 2017Published by
Foot Locker finalist Page Lester dominates in D.C. By Mary Albl of DyeStat After going out too fast in the league championships a week ago, the plan for Page Lester during Saturday's state meet was to be a bit more conservative. But even a more controlled game plan still led to a dominant victory by Lester. The National Cathedral senior won her second straight District of Columbia State Athletic Association Championship in 18 minutes, 5 seconds at the Kenilworth-Parkside Recreation Center. Her time was more than a minute faster than runner-up, Cady Hyde of St. John’s (19:31). "I've been feeling pretty strong," Lester said. Lester, also an elite triathlete, will next race at the Maryland and DC Private School Championships and then gear up for Foot Locker Northeast Regionals, a race that will provide her with a healthy amount of competition. "I'm really excited," she said. "It's going to be different." In the girls team race Saturday, St. John’s won the program's first state title (59 points). In the boys race, sophomore Gavin McElhennon of Gonzaga claimed the win in 16:34 as he led his team to a state championship with 31 points.
