Nicely, Tewalt Fastest In District of Columbia By Mary Albl of DyeStat There was a new champion at the District of Columbia State Athletic Association Championships on Saturday, Nov. 3 in the girls 5,000-meter race at the Kenilworth-Parkside Recreation Center. With the graduation of Page Lester, now at Princeton, it was Woodrow Wilson High junior Ava Nicely claiming her first state title in 19 minutes, 41 seconds. Nicely guided her team to a state title as well, with four runners in the top 15 to score 44 points. St. John’s College finished runner-up (49 points). In the boys race, Gonzaga College repeated as state champions, scoring 47 points. Cullen Capuano led the way with a second place finish (16:36), as Gonzaga had four runners in the top 15. Luke Tewalt of Washington Latin Public Charter won the race in 16:28. Team Champions Boys - Gonzaga College 47 points Girls - Woodrow Wilson High School 44 points
